The Coast To Coast Against Cancer Foundation is a national charity devoted to fighting childhood cancer. Coast to Coast raises funds for worthy childhood cancer charities by conducting a series of high quality, physically challenging, national and regional events. Coast to Coast ensures that 100% of its receiptable funds raised go towards improving the survival rate and quality of life of children and their families impacted by cancer.
From cycling rides to team-building activities, Coast to Coast encourages participants to engage in active and healthy lifestyles. For example:
The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride is one of the biggest and most ambitious charity cycling events on behalf of childhood cancer in the world. Now in it’s 5th year the 2012 event will be an emotional and inspirational adventure beginning in Vancouver on September 5 and complete in Halifax 17 memorable days late on September 21, 2011. Riding in relay style, the selected national riders will each cycle approximately 165 kms per day joined along the way by thousands of other caring cyclists who will cycle shorter, “stage ride” distances in major cities across Canada. At the start and end of each day they will participate in community events and visit many of Canada’s 17 pediatric oncology centres and hospitals where the cancer community will share inspiring stories of strength and hope with cyclists and the media.
In 2010, Baird had the pleasure of leading the national riders out as they began their cross-Canada journey. In 2011, Sarah had the pleasure of leading the national and relay riders (including her dad) as they started on their cross-Canada journey.
Coast to Coast against Cancer foundation also hosts the Tour For Kid rides. The Tour for Kid Rides are annual summer cycling adventure currently held in Ontario, Alberta and Atlantic Canada. Tour for Kids’ objective is to raise sustainable funding for children’s cancer camps and family support programs. Riders cycle near major cancer camps in the province traveling 100 to 200 kms per day in 2 to 4-day events. Tour for Kids will be expanding to other provinces across Canada (including BC) in the future.
This September, during National Childhood Cancer Awareness month, Coast to Coast will be taking the Inside Ride across Canada to raise funds and awareness for local children’s cancer charities. Teams of 6 cyclists register to spin at a comfortable pace and compete for Spirit, Fundraising, Costume, and Mileage medals. The National Inside Ride delivers fun, musical, professionally run events that define the word ‘meaningful’.
Ultimately, Coast to Coast is good people doing good things. Team Finn looks forward to a continued partnership with Coast to Coast in an effort to change the face of childhood cancer.
